YOGITA BHAYANA PROFILE

Few defining moments launch us to Life's Higher Purpose. Yogita, was witness to a road accident, the victim left to die by the roadside. Passerby's stopped, looked, walked. Local administrations and hospitals gave a cold shoulder. The victims passing was that turning point. Made Yogita step into public space to support lives who cannot access public services, because of  poverty & social class. She resolved to be voice of the oppressed. Helplessness of the road victim, apathy of Hospitals and uncaring state services, transported her to be a PEOPLE’s PERSON.

She became voice of Women whose body and pride were Violated. Indian women have faced battery, abuse and rape in mute silence for ages. She joined and led the Nirbhaya movement from 2012 to 2020, alongside Nirbhaya's mother. This campaign demanded, juvenile law age limit for rapists be lowered from 18 to 16 years. This movement led by Yogita became turning point in Parliamentary advocacy. Rajya Sabha the [Upper house of Indian Parliament] passed the JUVENILE JUSTICE AMENDMENT bill in 2016. Beyond the Nirbhaya movement, she continuously speaks for Woman who face abuse in communities. She is on the POSH/Sexual Harasssment committes of Companies and Various Institutions as a Nationally recognised expert.

Ever since bidding farewell to a good Aviation Sector job, at KINGFISHER AIRLINES, today she has placed herself as India's top known Women's rights activist and Campaigner for Rape Victims. This was no easy flight, from a luxury Corporate Job to a everyday FUNDS RAISER for the Oppressed Women's Cause. Fight against an oppressor maybe onetime, but taking on state's apathy, ineffective laws and policing is a endless road.

Year 2007, she stepped out to serve Women under the “PARIINDIA” Umbrella. Since then has been given to  empower women, bring gender sensitisation at workplaces and communities, fight sexual harassment of women at institutions and workplaces like companies. PARI is a youth-led movement advocating for the rights of rape victims in India. PARI's core areas of work include active work against sexual violence, providing prevention mechanisms for rape and supporting rape survivors with psychosocial, financial and livelihoods support. PARIINDA provides support structure to rape survivors for judicial procedures and their rehabilitation. Sensitising communities on the need to end rape and victim blaming is crucial to reduce the stigmatisation around the subject of rape as well as rape survivors (Who often can’t speak about their ordeal). To achieve this, PARI undertakes extensive awareness building initiatives at the grass-root level

When a woman falls and suffers, the PARIINDIA Team reaches out. State’s apathy and Social attitudes against women keep driving her everyday. So that poverty does not mean silence and acceptance, she travels to homes of the abused women, fights legal battles, prods police and politicians to act. The PARI-INDIA women protection program is  united in a Nationwide circle of Social Media Volunteers. New members join every hour. Focus of PARI is to educate people to be sensitive to women and children, in each strata of the society, in each caste, in each region and start this education from home.

Yogita served on the National Commission for Women, where she witnessed Nirbhaya case and many others. Today she is a leading spokesperson on Womens rights on National Television and Diases of credible Insitutions. Yogita is the Chairperson for People Against Rape in India (PARI), a Social movement that supports rape survivors and gets them strength and rights to fight for justice. Through her work with PARI she educates Corporations, Community Stakeholders, Institutions and Authorities find sensitivity in their hearts for Women and Children. She believes the First lession of Gender Sensitization begins at home.
